The end of the School Year 2008-2009 was celebrated in style on July 17th, 2009 in the garden restaurant located
in the New City Townhall in the Park of Komenský. The students of the 1st International school, their teachers, parents and the friends of the school came to celebrate, a lot of them dressed up in the style of 1930s. The unique atmosphere of the event, which took place in the open air on a warm summer afternoon, was complemented beautifully by the performance of the band called The Havelka Sisters.
As a part of the programme, the best students of the school were honoured as well as the most popular teacher who had been voted for by the students. Another significant part of the programme was the Opening of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Ostrava. Their representatives were introduced to the audience and participated in the Rewards Ceremony by personally awarding prizes to the best students.
The guests of the party were able to enjoy the barbecue refreshments while watching the pleasant performance of The Havelka Sisters, ably assisted at one point by one of the directors of the school, Brett Grey, singing some old time swing numbers.
