Visit to the District court in Ostrava Poruba | 2010-04-26

On Friday, the 19th of March, as a part of our Social Science lesson, we went on an excursion to the District Court in Ostrava Poruba. As usual, most of us took this tour as any student of any other school would, thinking about how long we would stay there and how many hours of school we were going to miss, thanks to it. But this time it was not the case.

When we had all successfully passed the security screening, including Tomáš Dřímal, we had a discussion with the judge of commercial law and the judge of criminal law. The discussion was held in a friendly and informal atmosphere and the judges were very helpful. After three hours, it was clear that nobody in our class took this tour as I described in the introduction. Most of us had substantial questions, most of the time, for the judge of criminal law, who was very nice, and smart. We learned many interesting things; among other things we also heard some personal opinions of both judges and curiosities dealing with various processes.

After the talks, during which no one got bored, we went directly to the courtroom. Here we tried on gowns and learned how everything works and functions during a court trial. On this occasion, the judge invited us to a future court hearing.

We left the court very satisfied, and only when we were outside, we finally realized the fact that we had spent so long a time there. We were all excited with this event, which was organized by Miss Micková.
